Where to get an emissions test in San Antonio / Bexar County
Use the official DPS Vehicle Inspection Station Locator to find certified stations near you. DPS notes that Bexar County emission-certified stations on its list begin emissions testing November 1, 2026.
Good to know before you go
- Price: up to $18.50 at the station. Another $2.75 is collected later at registration (TxDMV).
- Bring proof of insurance. Insurance is on DPS's list of emissions inspection items (DPS).
- Check the check-engine light and readiness first. Why it matters.
- Same station for the free retest within 15 days if you fail (DPS).
- Only Bexar County addresses qualify as Bexar emissions stations, per DPS's station FAQ.
- Proof of your test: results go into a state database. If the county can't verify it electronically, TxDMV says you can show your Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) or get a copy at mytxcar.org (TxDMV).
- Motor homes / RVs: call ahead to confirm the station's equipment can reach your vehicle (DPS).
Recognized Emissions Repair Facilities
If your vehicle fails, repairs at a Recognized Emissions Repair Facility count fully toward a DPS waiver (diagnosis, parts and labor). TCEQ links to a DPS repair-facility locator from its program overview.
